Hi @ all.
I'm still sitting here in Germany trying to find a job as a Truck Driver in Canada.
Now I'm in contact with a company that will pay 24 ct/ml (plus benefits) after training.
Do you think this is a fair salary? For me it seems to be a little low...

24 cpm isn't worth getting out of bed for, let alone thinking about.
.24 x 2500 miles = $600. That's $10/hour if you average 60 hrs to do the 2500 miles, less your meals, etc and you're better off flipping burgers.

Hmmm... Maybe you're right...
But for me this may be an entry to the North American Trucking Industry.
And - by the way - even under this conditions I will make more money than here in Germany. A German truckdriver earns average 300 € (400 $) per week. And taxes are much higher.

Rainer, you need to review some of the older posts on this subject in this site! There are several points that are new though that you need to think about. The Canadian Dollar has and continues to rise against the US Dollar and as a result the Americans are not importing our goods as much anymore. There are significant lay offs in our industries plus truck shipments are going way down. Also the cost of diesel and gasoline is forcing the remaining shippers to use the railroads to piggyback the freight trailers. It is not the best time to be looking for a trucking job in Canada. If you can and want to work in construction in the oilfield areas of Alberta, Sask. and the NW Territories, then it would make sense to emigrate if you qualify. But right now in Central/Eastern Canada it is a bit too tight to try for a job that might not have the miles per week or the rate or both to make it worthwhile! Good luck!

Average starting wage in my area is 38cpm and ramps upwards after 3 months. Then there are the loading/unloading, waiting time, layover, border crossing, Overdemensional (on flat beds) etc., charges that on a 2500 mile week could bring your average wages over the high 60cpm area.
Local drivers earn in the $17 to $22 per hour area as a starting wage.

HI ALL_Iwanted to start a forum on this a long time ago. I suggested at the time that we make a public list of these low paying places. It sounds to me like they are trying to take advantage of him not living here and sugar coating it to sound like they are doing him a great favor! Oscar
