I heard on the radio the other day what's taking so long to solve this dispute.

The FEDERAL mediator is only getting $1600/day plus GST

The PROVINCIAL mediator is only getting $1300/day plus GST.

Would you work for that pittance????

The Caledonia Ontario dispute is about Aboriginal Indians occupying a housing developement they claim was built on reservation land. They have occupied the property for 11 months, destroyed a sub-division under construction, damaged a highway bridge, a railway bridge and held a town hostage and divided for 5 months over the summer, destroyed provincial property, set fire to a hydro substation (price tag for this was $15 million).

The provincial government has spent over $150 million. The Feds almost twice that trying to bargain an agreement the natives keep walking away from.

The last straw was last weekend when Canadian Peoples were prevented and arrested for erecting and flying Canadian Flags to honour our war dead in Afghanistan and Iraq, along the highway in front of the sub-division under seige that is being allowed to fly "First Nations(Native Indian) flags.

The bill keeps adding up, the governments won't do anything to end the problem and hostilities between the natives and the towns people are fermenting again.

Then, it was leaked to the press what it's costing for these mediators to sit on their butts and do nothing. Almost $17,000 a week we as taxpayers are going to have to pay, one way or another.

I might be wrong but I don't think this thing would have been allowed in the U.S. I think the military would have been called in and this would have been over and done with 10 months ago!!!

Just my 1.5cents Cdn worth!!

:vmad: This Caledonia thing is a very large P/O as it only the beginning.
They claim six miles on either side of the Grand River is theirs, so if they get $20 million to get out of Caledonia, Brantford is next, as their claim is from source of the river to the mouth.

 Brantford will be next, then Cambridge, these people will never be satisfied. They get as a band so many millions a year from the Gov`t (read you and I) and the Band Council (similar to our gov`t) does not filter it down, they misappropriate and redirect funds so the average indian gets nothing and it is our fault
