Hi - I'm Irmi. My hubby, Steve, is an O/O and I take care of finding his loads and doing all his paperwork for him. We have been married for 33 years and have a 6 year old Bishon Brise, Teddy, that goes on the truck with Steve. I also work for for a family owned electrical contracting business and have been there almost 30 years. When we're not working, we enjoy camping and gardening. We live on the eastern shore on Maryland and enjoy meeting and talking to trucking families.

I am me at least the last time I looked I was - hubby drives a straight truck mostly state side - never know where he is because I don't think phone companies need our money more than we do so we don't make a lot of calls but then again he is usually home every weekend he drives for Canadian Expedite mostly expedited stuff - don't tell but it keeps him out of my hair. I work at a phone centre calling for clothing donations for a charity we have 2 grown daughters and we just became first time grandparents to a beautiful little girl on Nov. 8th.

Hi, I'm Woodie (39). Got 2 little Girls (4 & 5) with my Girlfriend. Been driving trucks since I was 14, tractors since I was 10 (Dad had a farm & timber business). Got into artics when I was old enough (21 in UK). Been driving ever since. Even when I had a desk job for 4 years, I still drove nights 2 - 3 times a week and agency work on weekend.

Funny story:- My second last job was transport manager of 10 truck firm that had been bought over, all the drivers were 20 / 25 year service guys and I wasn't sure how they'd take young guy telling them what to do. First driver I meet asked if I drove and asked when I gave it up; I looked at watch and said 3 hours ago!! Never had a problem with them after that!!

Heather is my wife and we married last July. She is a stay home mom and takes care of the kids. Tanayia is Heather's first child and is 11. Marissa will be a year old soon, and is Heather's second and my first child. We are planning on starting the next (and last) one in August, so when it is born, we will have a birthday about every 4 months for the kids.

Hi there to all, my name is Cheryl. I am divorced and have raised 2 boys and have 1 grandson. I live in the Eastern Ontario/Western Quebec area. I am not yet OTR and am looking at making the career change within 3yrs. I have been around the boards reading every bit of informatin available and may be asking some of my own questions. I look forward to any advice.

I have looked into different driver training programs here and spoken to some drivers. I do have family members who drive.....not necessarily agree with what I aim to do though. I understand here in Ontario AZ license does not require a training program to obtain it, however, most companies will not hire without it.

Becareful out there. Drive Safely!

Good luck on your change in industries. It's never to late to try something new.

You pretty much have to have the training ofr a con. to even look @ you today. This is due to the insurance board who rule's our industry.

I wish you the best of luck with your training. Ask anything you need to, & we will get you answer's.

Thanks for the support Holly! (PS....MAKE IT GREEN TODAY PLS!) HAPPY ST PATTYS DAY!

One family member actually discourages me from taking a tr'g program....and the insurance board issues is my biggest arguement with him. He is a 30yr vet and fails to realize that things are not like they use to be. I do know that it is in my best interests to follow & complete a training program.

Look forward to everyones advice and support!

It's never good to listen to one person's side. Talk to many in the industry. Call transport co's & ask their recuriter's. they will tell you what you need to do. You need training for the insurance co. to even look @ you.

You are absolutely right and I have already spoken with a very large company and some O/O's in the west.

I realize what I have to do to achieve my goal and have found a driver tr'g program who will allow me to do it p/t. I realize it is a 24/7 committment.....and challenging, I look forward to it. I also realize what it takes and how it will affect me and my family. I am making a serious effort to plan each step in order to make it a smooth transition.

A motto I have always lived by...... "A GOAL WITHOUT A PLAN IS JUST A DREAM!"

I'm from a Trucking family three of my uncles are trucker. Two are US driver one lives in IL and ones in NV, and my other uncle is MB. So I was brought up with a lot of respect but when I went with my fiance I have even more respect then I ever though possible.

Hi everybody.

My name is Rainer, I was born in Germany and I still live there, but I am planning my immigration to Canada.

Here in Germany I work as a Truck Driver. My truck is a MAN TGA.

A few weeks ago, in February, I visited a Job Fair in Essen, Germany, where Canadian Trucking Companies looked up for new drivers. This Job Fair was a quite good chance to get in contact with employers.

I decided to start my trucking career in Canada with a company that is located in Woodstock, NB. A few documents are still needed, but I hope that I can start working in Canada in September or October.

I am 47 years old, no wife, no children.

Thanks Oscar, Dave, Rod and Holly for your warm welcome in this forum.

I'm sure that I will have a lot of questions after arrival in Canada, but first I have to organize to get out of this f***ing Germany...

In the meantime I will read the postings in this forum. This surely will answer some of my questions that I have up to now. And - much more important - it will help me to learn better English. I learned (learnt?) English in school, but this was long long ago and my knowledge of the English language is a little bit "rusty"...

But I'm glad that I have found friends that will help me when the first questions and problems will come up. And I'm sure they WILL come up...

Thanks again and have a nice weekend, eh. :)

My colleagues have already overstated your welcome here. Don't ever be afraid to pose a question or a thought. The one question you think is stupid to ask could be the one that an answer just might save a career.

The experience circulating on this board is overwhelming. We have drivers, driver-trainers,mechanics,safety and compliance and clerical positions covered from every angle, sometimes 2 or 3 times.

Be patient when asking questions. The answers will be forth coming, but might take a day or three. Between the overseas time difference and the fact most of us are out on the road is the biggest problem here.

Welcome to the board. DO NOT BE AFRAID!! We only bite a little bit.

Occupation: I drive for Crete Carrier Corp. based in Lincoln, Nebraska & have also been writing for LandLine Magazine for over two years now.

Background: I'm a former owner-operator & diesel technician. I have been driving full-time for over 12 years.

Hobbies: I'm into music, classic cars (I own a '73 Dodge Charger S/E), and the outdoors. Being mostly of Native American descent I'm into many activities which pertain to my heritage.

Languages: English, and some Spanish.

Beliefs: I'm NOT a religious person, and I believe in maintaining my own independence & self-sufficience. I also believe in working hard to achieve financial prosperity on my own.

I guess I'm the old fart here. I got my license in Dec of 56 and am still at it. I've retired three times and still go back out every once in a while. I've been driving part time for a long time employer running a trip a week up and down I-5 hauling produce. Married to Elizabeth, 2 daughters, 8 grandkids, almost 2 great grandkids, and two very active smooth fox terriers. I like old cars and old motorcycles and have been halfway looking for a 1940 HD to restore and ride. I figure that the government has way to much to say about how I run my life and I'll do everything possible to avoid regulations and taxes. Crime wouldn't pay if the government ran it.

So, i'm driver for Roberts transport, you know, the bunch of yellow truck that crowd the 401 by driving at 100 kph ? :p Anyway, i'm driving mostly U.S, doing mostly LTL all over east and Mid-Ouest of America.

When I'm off the Road, I like to walk in mountains, riding my bike, and meeting new peoples.

My truck is a Yellow (huh) FLD 120 2003, 70 po high rise, truck number 102354, so if you pass me, say Hello, i'm normally on the channel 12, but normally when i'm in the U.S I am on channel 19.

I am curious about your nom d' plume, Sombrekarma. would you care to enlighten us?

08-24-2007, 12:05 PM
Acrremonious, truly, I don't know how to translate my "nom de plume". When I first think about it, darksoul would have been my best. But t'its would not translate it correct it... Karma is mostly what Hindouist would qulifie what you wil become in your future life.

In fact, I chose that name over the time because i'm a real fan of Gothic/Dark/Black metal, Groups like Dimmu Borgir, Craddle of Filth, The sins of thy beloved, Tristania, etc.... And too, because i'm a real ass when I have to chose an original Handle, so I shoose that. On the CB I'm known mostly know by sombre.

That said, i'm a almost a positive person, but sometime mostly when I cross at Port Huron I have a tendancy to become negative :D If you see what I mean
