Some castles are still lived, although the two biggest castles (Edinburgh & Stirling) are open to the public and are used as museums.

Blair Atholl castle in Perthshire is still lived in and the Duke of Atholl has the privilege that he is the only man in Scotland with his own private army. There is an ancient law that allows him to arm his employees in times of need, to fight on his behalf. (I would suggest you don't annoy him.. :D )
