No its not about the BIG BELLY but about all the stuff new drivers seem to think they need to cram into their truck.

Had a husband / wife team the other night in Texas who were beside themselfs as they were missing good paying loads for being OVER WEIGHT , they were to repower a load from another team that had the identical truck FREIGHT SHAKER CENTURY CONDO, they told them it was just under the legal limit with fuel tanks 1/2 full, the H/W hooked up and went to weigh it , well over the legal limit with 1/2 tanks of fuel. Had to decline the load.

She was on the phone with their dispatch and was on the receiving end of some HARD WORDS.

He walked over and asked if maybe he was doing something wrong , I made the mistake of asking " Whats in the TRUCK "

They had more junk in the truck than they could possibly ever use. The FRIDGE was a REAL fridge ( apartment sized ) and loaded with food, she had every nook and cranny stuffed with canned goods , a BIG TV , VCR , DVD , microwave / convection oven, clothes stuffed from the upper bunk to the roof , 120 LB dog + all the stuff needed for it.

Under the bunk was packed , he had (2) 50 TON bottle jacks , the MEGA tool set from sears , most things a flatbed operator would need ( they pull reefer ) , tire chains, but not 1 jug of oil or antifreeze.

:yikes::yikes:
Some people don't take into account what they have in the trk. It all add's weight to your trk.
Seem's the only thing missing was the washer & dryer.

that does sound like alot of stuff.

i once drove a IH truck and aluminum flatbed that only weighed about 29 500 empty, so thats pretty decent, this pete and aluminum flat is about 31 500 tho

i talked to another guy with a pete and alum flatbed and he said his only weight 28 500, i could hardly belive that, he even had a long wheelbase too!

How the tractor is spec'd has a lot to due with the difference in weight , bigger engine , different transmission , even the insulation all adds up.

You guys must be running heavy tractors to get the weights up that high. I run a Frtliner Columbia with a 60" bunk, MB450, 13 speed, and pull a 53' reefer. The unit weighs 33,500lbs full of fuel (both truck and reefer). We can carry a little over 46,000 payload if it's loaded right. Like another poster says, it's all in the tractor specs.
