Now that Washington and California have passed hands free laws, what are you using to comply? I very seldom use the phone while I'm driving and then only if someone (read travel agent) calls me. I don't carry the phone with me when I leave the truck and am not about to get hardwired with one of those whatchamacallits stuck in my ear. Don't want to get a ticket either so what are you using?

Here in Atlantic Canada, Nova Scotia has also passed the cell phone while driving ban. it's an expensive ticket, and they will deduct points from your license.

A woman ran a kid over and killed him, just outside of Halifax, NS. It happened because she was busy trying to talk or text on her cell.
so the police in most of the maritimes are starting to crack down on it alot more now, althou you can still see the police talking on theirs while driving (go figure huh). LOL

So i belive we will start seeing many more provinces and states, starting to get very strict on it now.

Hands free, or pulling over always seem to work, So would knowing where your going ahead of time.

these are just feel good laws, the ppl who do most of the driving and texting will still keep doing it, just they will be more careful to not get caught.

I think we have to many BS laws now, and we don't need more.

If they are driving stupidly, just charge them with careless, if they are driving fine while using the phone, leave them alone.

isn;t that simple enough, we already got enough laws, just use them, instead of making more laws.

The phone in my truck is on while I'm working because it is one of the job requirements. The company supplies the phone and pays for it and wants it on while the driver is in the truck and/or on duty. Makes for much easier driver contact for dispatch changes or customs clearance issues. I seldom answer it while I'm driving, I let it take a message and return the call at my convenience. I will, however, answer it if it rings while I'm in a flurry of pickups as most door assignments and appointment confirmations are made by phone instead of the CB.

I never shut my phone off, its on 24/7 and always with me.

I use 10-4 alot, and that isn;t anymore distracting than using the cb, so i see no problem with it, if its alright to use cb, its alright to use 10-4 phone!

BB you might want to watch the news. Ontario is about to pass a bill banning electronic communication devices in a motor vehicle.

The way it is worded, hands free, 10-4, blue-ray phones are rolled in to the package with GPS screens.

None of which should be used while driving. GPS screens are a distraction as much as any type of telephone.

They invented voice-mail for a reason.

The blue ray crap is the most annoying, inconsiderate piece of crap I've seen yet. It's bad enough people have no consideration for others on a cell phone, now they do it with a bug in their ear.

Remember when you needed to talk to someone you found 10 minutes to find a land-line in a private area? Now they can't put a damn phone down in a restaurant, movie or a check-out line. Those that get short-changed..DESERVE it.

I have to agree with you on this one, guess you might have to have to tape your "10-4" phone to your child's band mic, make it look like you're ratchet jawing on your radio!

Its blue- tooth, not blue- ray,and i don't use those.

And there is no possible way that i will believe reading a map or reading a peice of paper with written directions is less distracting than a gps screen on the windsheild. They are both distracting, and i know for me personally, the gps is less distracting for me!!

So now the gov;t is gonna tell me its alright to read a map or read directions off paper, but not alright to read a map or directions on a screen on the windshield, it makes no sense!!! Its the same thing, except one is paper and one is not. I usually have to look away from the road longer to read a map than to glance at gps screen.

I don;t care what the law says, if i feel safer using gps, i will do it, a ticket for using gps is better then reading a paper map and hitting someone, so i will do what i feel personally safer doing.

If you program the gps ahead of time, there no way its distracting! I think its safer actually, because i know the proper lane to be in before the signs even tell me!

I cannot figure out why some people are so against something, that makes a truckdrivers life so much easier.

Are you against am/fm radios and cb's too ? they are also distracting, lets ban them, lets also ban eating, drinking, smoking, h*ll lets even ban thinking about something other than driving, lets also ban pens and paper from vehicles, since we all know writing something down while driving is distracting.

I am so tired of all these BS laws. Where do you stop making laws? Lets also ban all gauges on the dash, since those are distracting too and take your eyes off the road!
