An Illinois company that makes suspension systems for heavy trucks plans to lay off more than one-third of its employees at a Stratford, Ontario, Canada, plant.

Today’s Trucking reported that the plant, which makes heavy springs for Sterling Truck in St. Thomas and International Truck and Engine in Chatham, Ont., will lay off 150 workers.

Last week, Sterling sent layoff notices to 800 employees and International Truck and Engine spokesman said the company gave notice to 640 workers on Dec. 4.

In a press release, a spokesman for Hendrickson said a “predicted significant decline in the heavy truck market” is prompting the layoffs.

The spokesman said the layoffs will affect both salaried and hourly personnel.

There is a lot of this going to happen in the new year.
Everyone knew this was coming, yet they couldn't put a plan into action to be able to avoid lay offs.

Yep, it doesn't take a genius to see the writeing on the wall.

I worked for a freezer manufacturer in Guelph and left after over 18 years when they opened in Mexico.

When asked why I said, "All rats leave a sinking ship!"

Wouldn't you know it? Just this year they announced that they are closeing one of their plants in town.
