Drivers are organizing another protest against the Ontario speed limiter law. On June 13th, 2009, drivers are being invited to attend in order to meet personally with other members of the public, media, and politicians. The decision to hold the event on the weekend was made because of the inability for working truckers to be able to get away from their weekday commitments.
Added to the mandate of the group is the opposition to the recent decision by the Ministry of Transportation to start issuing permits allowing the use of Long Combination Vehicles (LCV’s) on Ontario roads. Drivers have been expressing concerns with these “road trains” which range from safety issues to the increased unemployment of hundreds of drivers.
We believe that the real reason behind the imposed speed limiters on trucks was to pave the road for large fleet carriers to be able to put the LCV’s on our highways.
All who are attending are invited to bring their families and friends to meet with truck drivers and their families for an opportunity to share information about these issues that will affect all of us.
This event is being planned to be more than just an opportunity to educate and deal with the speed limiter’s and LCV’s, it will be an opportunity for the grass root operators of the trucking industry to connect with the community they serve.
The location of the event will be at the Milton Fair Grounds, Milton, Ontario, just 25 minutes west of Toronto, off highway 401 at exit #320 (Hwy 25)
The public will be invited to come starting at 9am until 7pm on Saturday.
There will be a planned media event commencing at 11:30 near the grand stands. This will be an opportunity for some of the leaders in the industry to speak out about the issues before the trucking industry today.
There is no admission charge for this event.

I wish that I could be there on the 13th to show my support for my Canadian Brothers and Sisters. I hope that you get a big turn out to show your support. I would like to come but if I did I could not get home, as I don't have a passport.

Little news media attends the truckers protest, but there was 45 to 50 truckers who attended. Arriving some in trucks, some in cars, motorcycles and pick-ups.

I've attached a link to the news coverage of the event. I honestly think the reporter wasn't listening to what was being said at the event. Rather she had a script in mind of how she wanted to do her story.

She said nothing in her report about the LCVs' which were a large part of the issue.

The event went well. Thanks to those who made it out to attend the event. Special Thanks to Melanie Green and her husband for coming from British Columbia to share there frustration with this law and how it effects them.
