Anyone have a train horn on their truck? I was wondering if it's possible to install one using the existing air system or if you would have to add another compressor and storage tank. I tried searching the web for info but just come up with sites selling horns, not much info on semi applications. Anyone know much about this? I'm not interested in scaring people, I just think its a safety thing.

No, why is this funny? You take the time to reply with no helpful info? I find that funny!

O.k, maybe safety is not the word to use but I just think wildlife would react more often to a louder horn. No? Are there any legal issues with running them?

Yes there are legal issues -- unnecessary noise bylaws.
Far as wildlife --- my brother in law is a Game Warden and he has shown me studies showing that it is safer NOT to blow your horn at all at wildlife as this may cause the wildlife to panic and actually run the wrong way more often than not and hit your car/truck.
My daughter (who is also on this site) says they are the same as a jacked up pickup truck used for driving on city streets .... Compensation for a small penis.

Thanks for the info BW, I didn't know that about the wildlife. As for the small penis syndrome, mine hasn't been used in so long, size is no concern for me! :laugh1:

They are sold at the body shop just east of the PetroCan at the top of the hill in Kamloops. Probably cost you about $400. for a set and they work off the existing system. I sure as hell would never install them on the roof, that would be a magnet for the DOT to continously want to check your truck.

WILDLIFE :dont_know: ever see the result of a BULL MOOSE that takes the AIR HORN on a freight train as a rival BULL announcing himself.
Most you see on trucks run a extra air tank for it , illegal in many areas.
Why not be different and get a FOG HORN both would be as useful on a CLASS 8 trator as a backup alarm on a Canadian Tire wheelbarrow.

Give a moron a train horn and he will prove that he/she really is a moron. Example: a Cam Hiltz truck (Trash Hauler) was blowing his/hers every few minutes the other day on the 401 for no apparent reason. Lots of noise, no brain function.

Or, you might unknowingly be issuing a challenge to a moose in rut, which would be a mistake.

That noise is probably good enough to send greetings to the train driver on the tracks beside you if you´re rolling on the trans canada hwy so far it´s safe with no other traffic in front behind or beside you.
for that reason i´m also using my hwy horn and most of them sending greets back with their train horn.

And you don't need an additional air tank.

The truckers toybox in Acheson has knock-off train horns too for $199 I think. I bought a set of genuine train horns, Nathan airchime P3's off Ebay for $475. They are a hell of a lot louder and are made of sand cast aluminum not brass.

I worked for guy who put a real train horn in his truck and let the first blast off while crossing the lot after it went in. that is about the time he found out it sucked the air and popped the maxi's on. He had to get a protection valve to stop it from draining the tanks. LOL

I can blast mine for at least 30 seconds before my air pressure drops to about 95psi and my supply line to the horns is 1/2". I usually just use quick short blasts most off the time. Deer and moose sure hightail back into the bush when they hear me coming!

I know a guy who works for CN out on the coast and he has one in his truck and I found out he had it when I was scaling out on the east bound Port Mann scale. The DOT officer jumped 6" when he drove by bobtailing and gave me short blast, so I can imagine a animal used to large vehicles in a format they are used to coming at them and sounding so strange to them. I had to say he must like oversized loads or just wanted to let you guys know he was there. Didn't really want them to know I was the cause of them getting a start on exercise....lol

LOL, that would have either been Cam's brother Carl or son Nate. No brain function hit it on the head!!!
