As an o/o leased to a dry van company, would you prefer to earn revenue through running miles, or by earning drop / pick up pay ? Would the latter not make more sense, since your truck is making money without having its wheels turn ? What are the LTL companies out there that sign on o/o ? What are the pros and cons of LTL vs. truckload ?
I'd really appreciate some response to this. Thanks in advance.

Scheduling is the big thing with LTL , 1 mixup and you miss your appointments for the remaining drops.
We do a lot of LTL outbound and TL return loads , guys have to be on the ball.

If you are working on a percentage of the revenue then LTL is OK, many times better than mileage BUT as previously mentioned you have to hustle some days. Demurrage is a MUST, if you spend too much time at a dock and miss other appointments, it really affects your earnings. Some carriers are paying a guaranteed earnings per day to offset the losses of doing LTL.

we got paid for any pick after the first one and any drop after the first drop plus we were paid per mile no matter if we had one drop or six.

The first pick and drop were free? Did that time have no value? I don't understand this first pick/drop free thinking.

First drop free, first p/up free has been an industry problem for years.
First hour or two hours depending on co. is also free on T/L p/up or del
Industry needs a total overhaul.
My thoughts...pay driver $250.00 per day + $.10 per mi. no more 3 day layovers I`ll bet, and drivers would log legal.
$1750.00 gross plus 2200 mi at $.10 = $220.00 a good driver is worth at least that!!
