It could be a long, dry summer for LCBO customers.

The union representing liquor store employees is preparing to train strike crews tomorrow, as the clock ticks towards a June 24 strike deadline in contract talks with the province's liquor control board.

The LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) controls the distribution/marketing of liquor/wine in Ontario. In smaller communities privately owned stores, usually a grocery store or corner store, are approved "agents" for the LCBO and "the Beer Store" which is another controlled vendor of beer!

Maybe it's time for Ontario to disband the virtual monopoly that BOTH the LCBO and The Beer Store have and allow free enterprise to take over!

It was a beer strike in BC in the early 70's that got me into a 20 year home brewing stint. I still raise an occasional glass to toast those individuals that had the foresight to go on strike during my championship quality beer drinking days. Six batches of 5 dozen each every 4 weeks and not a bad beer in the bunch. Cheers!

I remember the beer strike in Alberta in about 1979/1980. We were drinking "Olympia" from Washington if memory serves me correctly.
