I have a Volvo VNL 770 with a dead instrument cluster. I believe my problem is in the left hand side circuit board. I need a schematic diagram for the board or an old board that I can try to trace out where the +12V Ign. signal goes. Things are getting a bit tense as I have the truck parked in front of the house and the instrument cluster in pieces on the kitchen table for 2 going on three weeks. Can anyone help?

Pipeman Thanks for the reply.
I have talked to the dealer and their solution is to replace the circuit card. This may solve the problem but the card costs $1085. If there is only a bad solder joint or a broken resistor their solution is very expensive. If the problem is the CPU on the card then I am going to have to pay up. I would like to troubleshoot this further. In order to go deeper into the card I need a circuit diagram so i can follow the +12V Ign. signal. I was hoping to find someone that has come across this before and knows what part of the circuit tends to fail.

I found www.wiring-diagram.com with Google. They claim that if it is sold in North America they can probably find a wiring diagram or schematic for you. They don't do it for nothing but I figured you'd rather pay them 6 bucks for a schematic that over a grand to Volvo for a 15 cent board. Happy Hunting!

Looks like they are big on wiring diagrams but I did not see any schematics. I sent them an e-mail with my requirements. Thanks for the link.

I don't think I have ever seen a schematic of one of the circuit boards on any truck.
I would imagine that would be a dealer only drawing.

Anybody have an in at a Volvo dealer?

:23_11_60: I found the problem. It was an open diode on the left circuit board. I have powered it up on the kitchen table and the graphic display comes on. I will try it in the truck in the morning to see if it is getting the data to drive the gages from the engine computer.

It would be nice to know how this story ended. I have a Volvo, and I have found that the cheapest and most expedient solution is frequently the dealer.

Best repair for a Volvo is 4 gallons of gasoline and a road flare.
Volvos have been notorious for double wiring harnessess and not marking the fuse-circuit panel properly or not at all.
I'd check every breaker or fuse and then go from there with the dealer. But then he'd have to contact the manufacturer and get the build and wiring schematics for your VIN.
