View Full Version : Ultra Low Sulphur
Hi,
I rented a truck the other day to practice up on shifting prior to my road test. There was a placard on the truck specifying ultra low sulphur diesel only. Are all diesel vendors (Vancouver area) selling this type of diesel?

I think it has become the standard all across Canada. Has to do with emissions and air quality. All our stations up here (That I have used anyway) have the ultra low sulfur diesel.

It's supposed to be the new standard, but one still must be careful. Low sulphur is still available in some locations. There will be a sticker on the pump telling you what should be in it.
Ultra Low is required in post 07 engines equipped with a DPF. (Diesel Particulate Filter) That would be the big round thing in the exhaust stream, normally on the passenger side, behind the step.
Low sulphur fuel will plug up the DPF in a heartbeat. Once the DPF is restricted, it will 'regenerate' itself. If it is not capable of regenerating itself, it will derate the engine, and eventually shut the engine down. If a shut-down occurs, it a tow job to the dealer.
Bottom line.... Know your fuel requirements and know what you are pumping.
