This one just floors me... CTV News article (http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20090922/gun_seizures_090922/20090922/?hub=TorontoNewHome)
I'm not a gun enthusiast, but I just do not understand how seizing registered weapons from legitimate gun owners is going to cut down crime. Yes, they may have been improperly stored, but how the hell is the average lowlife going to know that much less which homes have them? To me it would make more sense to go after the source of the illegal guns - they are much easier to come by and there are more of them out there, why can't this be the focus instead? They mention that 30% of the guns recovered from serious crimes have been stolen from registered owners. So what are they doing about the other 70%? Does it not make sense to go after the bigger number?
Seriously, this has boggled my mind. Can anyone give me a reason why the police would do this?
