The disease is still there. However you slice it, the events of the last few weeks have confirmed that the Liberal party is still divided. In fact, it looks worse: The division is now along lines that nobody can see but are very strong and dangerous – if you cross them, you will be electrocuted.
Let's take a look.
In the '80s, Liberals had to choose between John Turner and Jean Chrétien. In the '90s and beyond, they had to make a choice between Chrétien and Paul Martin. Last year it was about Stéphane Dion – supported by Chrétien – and Michael Ignatieff. What is it today? Is it about Toronto against Montreal? Or is it about Ignatieff and Bob Rae – who is supported by Chrétien. And in Quebec, is it about Denis Coderre and Martin Cauchon – who is supported by Chrétien?
