Inverters make AC power from DC thru a rectifier crossover. It can not make a true syne wave like generated AC, it does it by making a square syne wave. This is called a modified syne wave. Some electronics do not like this. There is nothing that can be done about it. I used to have a laptop that didnt like inverters at all.

You can buy a true sein inverter, as some CPAP machines require them, Could also be a port or cable or software problem, take everything into the house and try it BOL

May I suggest that if your friend is close enough, to try plugging into his inverter? Are you sure his inverter is a 175, and not a 1750 watt? 175 watts doesn't seem like sound power to get the proper amps to run a copier. Divide watts by volts (110) to get amps. Either amp requirements to run a devise, or amps available at your power source.

As suggested take into the house and see what happens , Also does the printer brand have HP initials . We used to have one that done the same thing in the house , plug into a different socket , it would work fine for a while , after running out of sockets , called the manufacturer , and they tryed to tell me it was faulty wiring , BS , bought a new one different brand , no issues .
Also I don't think 175amp inverter would be big enough
