Hello to everyone!
I'm look to bypass EGR on the engine to increase MPG. Personally, I install a plug in the egr circuit and it lightly improve MPG but check engine come on (It's normal because I unplug the EGR valve when I do that). I try it to temporary fix a failed EGR valve but find some improvment on MPG but I lost some PSI on boost.
Does someone know a better 'cleanier' way to do that.
Thanks!

I heard that you turn the key on but don't start the truck that will engage EGR then unplug it and tape it all up so it wont get dirty then turn the key off wait a few mins. then start the truck.I think I heard it on Kevin Rutherford's show.Even dealers didn't care if it was unplugged, and if you're truck has 2 plugs to the EGR, it's the bottom one.

Thanks for the info JReid. It's a fast way to kill the EGR but the EGR valve must be ok. Did you try it? Dis the check engine come on?
I hope you folks know more about what impact disconnecting the egr might have on a motor long term even if seeing small fuel gains. Then there is also the legal issue which could bite.

You seem to know a lot on diesel engine. What are some of the long term impact on engine?

Anyone else doing it or info in the net with that specific engine?

For those with the ISX that are disapointed with the fuel mileage, as I was, then you might give this a try....
On a COLD engine, turn the key on without starting, then wait at least 10-15 seconds then unplug the lower plug on the EGR. The ECM will close the valve during the wait time, then the unplug will leave it closed. Will usually only throw a code. Usually no check engine light or limp mode, depending on which truck the engine is in.
The results? How about up to 1 mpg better fuel mileage. I did this some time ago. I have averaged about .8 mpg better than before I did this. The engine runs substantially cooler on hard pulls. No hp or torque gains that I can tell. Just that the engine runs smoother, less soot and smoke, and better mpg.
Simple, cheap modificaton. Better than investing in the slew of addon stuff that normally doesn't seem to really work as advertised.2006 ISX:23_30_126[1]:

hi guys,
i subscribe to this forum just to let u know what i did. after loosing my time 1 year by pluging and unpluging my egr and putting some resistance and always have check engine light on without seeing good result, i went to a shop in montreal to delete my egr valve on my isx 2007 professionaly.it cost me 1500$, i have no more check engine light coming on, i gain about 75 horsepower and went from 6.2 mpg to 7.3 mpg. its a friend of mine who sent me there. on is isx, they replace the turbo, and he went from 6.5mpg to 8 mpg.i am saving about 15k in fuel per year, and have no more egr problem. really worth the 1500$. i only regret that i did not go there earlier... i dont remember the address of the shop, but i know its called Dieselspec. very small place, but professional engine repair shop.
