Here in the UK, we get paid hourly/weekly/monthly whatever. It seems that you all get paid by mileage across there. That would be illegal in the UK as it can be construed as "inciting a driver to break the law".
However I note your comments about unpaid jobs, i.e. tarping, servicing etc. My point would be that tarping is part of your job, you surely don't expect the customer to load and secure your load. As for taking the truck for a service and waiting for it being repaired, no doubt you would like to go from being a driver to being an operator eventually, well when that comes all these things you complain about now will be part and parcel of the job.
It seems that you are happy with the truck and have made a reasonably good income, I hope that you continue to do so and keep safe out there.

Good for you Wayne. It's a great start to your new career.
I'm not sure about the extra pay for tarping. Maybe Buzzy can help you out there.

Tarping?? I get $25 each time I touch a tarp.
$25 to put it on
$25 to take it off.
$20 to load and
$20 to unload
That is for each and every shipment. Some companies only pay you to tarp "THE LOAD" once regardless of how many picks and drops.
Anything over 2 hours is $19/hour. Like a rally nasty load of machinery.
