There is a winter weather warning for this area today.
So far all schools are closed. The 401 E bound is in bad shape. There are accidents all over the place.
Freezing rain, sleet, & snow.
Temps are going to drop throughtout the day, & will make it a really icy.
O.P.P. are warning every to cancel all travel plans.

Be careful out there, some people have this over confidence, & are usually the cause of many accidents.

I phoned my regular job this morning and they told me that the whole fleet is parked and will not be going out today!!

If you don't absolutly have to go out!! Don't!!!!

I called my Dr's office in London, & they too have the same weather.
Stay off the rds if you have no need to go out.
Think I'll call my office & tell them I'm stuck @ home. :D Wonder if I can get away with it this time. I really need to move farther from work. Living 2 blocks from the office isn't a good thing.

I know, but I still have to try. Besides the boss likes the challange.

Jsut came back from Ayr. The 401 is a friggin mess. Not with any vehicles, but the rd itself. Hammer lane from Homerwatson to the Ayr exit. Also the granny lane isn't much better. Chunks of frozen ice & snow. The only good lane it the middle one. I alos heard it was bad around the 25 & 6.
Please be very careful, as the temps are going to drop & it will get more slippery after all this rain.

I was watching the supper news about the storm in Ontario. Pretty nasty out there by the looks of it. One cop said there was over 400 accidents before lunch time. One question and i don't mean to come off as an a-hole to the fine folks from Ontario that are avid readers of this board but don't the morons living there know how to slow down when the roads are bad? :wtf:

The weather wasn't too bad here, got a bit of snow, i don;t think it was that slippery tho. I was out from 4-9pm plowing and sanding.

Of course they don;t know how to drive, any moron can get a licence in ontario, and most of the toronto people can't even drive on dry pavement properly

Don't worry about insulting us Double T, there are far to many getting licences that have no clue how to speak english let alone read it. There are idiots where ever you go.

I agree with the rest there are a lot of people around that don't know enough to slow down in bad weather - Toronto got the freezing rain so it was a skating rink apparently all we got up here in Barrie was some more snow - but we have just as many idiots up here also - probably because Barrie is one of Toronto's bedrooms.

Double T, I am going to try and be as politically correct as possible.

Alot of "New Canadians" end up in Toronto because it's where the airport is!! :D

Some of them haven't seen snow before in their lives. Our beautiful province doesn't want to deny these people their "rights" so, they give them licenses to drive on our highways.

Since training to drive a four-wheeler in Ontario is not necessary these "New Canadians" hit the road and drive in the winter as they do in the summer!!

This, of course, results in "idiot drivers on the road!!

Hope this clears things up!! :D :D :D

Can you clear something up for me?

When you say that you don't train to drive in Ontario, do you mean that you apply and they give you a licence, nobody sits a driving test?

I presume by 4-wheeler, you mean a car?

Here in the UK, you need to sit a test to drive a car, then another test for a rigid goods vehicle, then you need to sit a test to drive an artic or a drawbar combination. But sometimes I wonder how some manage to pass a test!! Think every country has their share of bad drivers.

In my opinion you are not trained you are tested to get a license in Ontario.

There are driving schools but it is not a requirement.

Hope this helps!!

Well I went out and played in it. NO WIMP HERE!

1 hour to get ice off of car to drive 15 minutes to the office only to find
Building had no hydro. (read...no phones, computers, HEAT) and 1 f 7 office staff

2 hours to de ice tractor and a flatbed.

1 hour drive to Nanticoke (Stelco) to load a coil outside.

Coil coated in an inch think layer of hard water but it had to be tarped

1.5 hour drive to the border at Buffalo N.Y

Then it got better. 15 minutes out of Buffalo it started to warm up and rain.

52 F and rain when I went thru Pittsburgh last nite.

Got up this morning to 25F and snow. :wow:

Thanks for that Ron, very informative..

Similar to UK,

Here when you are 17 you can apply for a provisional licence, this allows you to drive with a qualified driver (must have held full licence for minimum 1 year) sitting beside. You can apply and sit a driving test at any time after your 17th birthday. You don't need to have had any lessons from an approved instructor, but obviously it helps.

You can not drive Heavy Goods Vehicles until you are 21 (although there is a Government lead scheme that lets you drive them when you are younger, but you must be employed by a Haulier and must take approved lessons, before passing your test). Driving HGV's is the same as the car, must have a qualified driver beside you unitl you pass your test.

We are much the same across here, instructors teach you to pass a test, not really how to drive. I was first taught for my HGV by an ex-army driving instructor, and when I went to a driving instructor, he told me that I had been taught how to drive, not pass a test.

Exactly!!

When I went for my AZ(HGV) I had to pratically dissect the truck. People going for the car drivers license where just getting in them and going!!

How do they know their lights are working?? How do they know if they have brakes??

Just boggles the mind!!

They really do need to make 4 wheeler drivers do a better check on their vehicle before they drive, i see so many cars with lights not working, and broken parts
I think all vehicles in ontario should have a pass a safety inspection every 6 months!
It would cut down on unsafe vehicles.
And the testing should be harder for 4 wheeler drivers!

We got lots of snow around here now! I have been out in the plow everyday this week!

The snow has just started here!! The phone should ring any minute now!!!!
