Im working on getting my truck drivers licence and this is what I wanted to check with you guys

Im an Ontario resident who recently moved to Montreal.

All things being equal, is there any real advantage or dis-advantage to getting a class 1 licence in Quebec or Ontario?

Should I go back to Ontario to take my truck drivers licence exams?

Maybe theres something I dont know....

Take your training in Cornwall, get your license in Ontario. Very long waiting list for SAAQ training in Quebec. You have to take their courses (only 3-4 in province) to be considered for waiting list for final road tests. Montreal's is at Mirabel.

The last I heard it was 16 week wait just to start course.

Ask cornwall if they can book your MTO test in Hawkesbury. Linda (Hawkesbury) is thorough but fair.

I don't know if this has any bearing on what your asking.
It's worth checking into, But I took my training at the Ontario Truck Driving School in Niagara on the Lake down by St. Catherine's and there was this trucker who had just moved from Quebec into Ontario.
Well any way, he had to redo his Z endorsement because Ont. & Quebec have some type of a problem with provincial disagreements with licensing issues.
This fellow was an O/O, and has driven for about 40 years he also said he was 62 and that was 1 1/2 yrs. ago.
Evidently Quebec doesn't acknowledge something about Ontario's licensing ways and visa verse.
Good luck and keep it between the lines

Your driver friend did not do himself any favours moving to Ont. for license, 62 years old means he only got a 3 yr lic., when he is 65 he gets Ontario age Discrimination thrown in his face and gets to do written, medical and roadtest again to keep his lic.

Ontario is the only province that allows this discrimination against class AZ drivers ONLY.

I'm 67 and other than an annual medical (which I get anyway) that's all BC requires. No tests, no government burocracy :23_11_60:

Good living on the left coast, in lotus land.

Thanks guy

It looks like I will going forward with this goal in my new home of Montreal.

First thing Im doing is changing my Ontario licence to a class 5 Quebec licence...before I can even consider a class 1

My biggest concern right now is if I can take a course in English.
