Ok in another thread I asked a question,

When the OTA's brain surgeons were lobbying for the 105 kms law, they were giving as an argument that it would level the playing field in our industry.
I think it was all BS and it was more a matter of putting theyre superhero's faces in the magazine and news but that's my opinion.

how about we do a little exercise and virtualy level that playing field.

lets put aside anything about union, seems that the thought about union is scaring a lot of people and rasing a lot of frustrations. I keep asking what else could we do.

Let's say that gov, comes up with a law that force everybody to pay a OTR driver 40 cents a mile (put any number you want any way you want as long that every driver is paid the same everywhere.) a bit like a minimum wage and make it illegal to pay per diem.

There could be classes of drivers, tank, flatbed tandem tandem combo, quads trains, west coast mountain whatever.
Divide them by classes but each class of drivers is paid the same as the other in his class.
Coast to coast same salary for any OTR trucker.

I know I know I dont want the gov in there more than you do but for the sake of the discussion let's assume.
Now get off the floor and play the game for a minute.

Lets go crazy, lets say this law would force companies to pay with whats in the log books or any recording devices you want.
We're assuming here
I mean pay the miles that are logged, and hours that you put in as work when you deliver or pick up etc. no pay to sleep or sitting at the truckstop for lunches.
I'm not talking about pension plans, or anything, just base pay per mile and hourly rates.
Put any number it doesnt matter.
We have a lot of experienced business people here and it would be like doing a stress test on a business plan to see what would be the result of such actions on our industry.
What i'm asking is this.

What would be the consequence of doing this?
What would this do to the rates?

Well I guess that everything is just fine and dandy then.
Everybody's happy.

Man are we in trouble...

i don't think anything will change, and there is no easy solution, when there is always an endless supply of new drivers and O/O's wanting to give trucking a try.
