OK, alright already, so I'm not Ukrasnka, does being married to one not count for something? She went to Vic Comp in Edmonton when her Uncle was the Vice Principle there!
Yes, I have had the Hamilton version (my boss in the steel mills was a Ukrainian from Calgary! He was a real conasieur of fine ethnic foods.) And I have not stopped long enough in Vegerville to get more than gasoline from an old Lloydminster school mate years ago.
There are some of the cousins here in the "Shwa" who prepare some of the best, too.
The last week that school is in we celebrate all week in Oshawa with all nationalities hosting at their respective halls what is called Fiesta Week. I am going to post a picture of Easter Eggs display from the
Dnipro Hall off Bloor near Ritson Rd. for your enjoyment! Now I want a bowl of Borsht, but wifey is never keen on it, so will sulk. By the way, the best Ukrainian food is at Kenora, Sask. in Harry's on the South Service Rd. just past the lights. Or are they not there any more? Time flies!

Are you thinking of Harry`s Ukrainian something or other that used to be on the south service road, just past the lights in Brandon,Mb.? It had excellent food but the place was decorated with stuffed animals and birds hanging all over the place. The decor didn`t quite match the menu..

I looked on Streets and trips. It is Yorkton, Sask. and on the South Service Rd. just past the lights to go down town take the deke on to the Service Rd. W/B to Harry's Ukrainian Kitchen. It was a banquet and dance hall that catered to weddings, etc but was open to the public on the restaurant side. I remember in the late spring there were Western Meadowlarks all around there singing the full song not the abbreviated one that Eastern cousins sing. (Genetic studies prove that they are the same birds and thus the song is a learned one from parents!) You can take the boy out of the Prairies but you can't take the Prairies out of the boy! I missed supper I'm told, Catch you later, Rod McG.

A side note about Harry's Ukrainian kitchen. It's closed now but i think the year was 1983 his son played hockey here for the local Junior A hockey team. Now Harry's grandson plays for that same team his dad played for. The kid is a decent player and it has paid off for him as he has gotten a scholarship to a college in the states.

I'm just fine Holly.. Thaks for asking. The purple is Ukrainian, made with dill, beek stock and meat, cabbage and BEETS. Taste best with beet leaves right out of the garden.

Hey Pipe...have you ever had beet leaf buns? My wife made some for her dad one day...she let the dough rise overnight. In the A.M. the pieces of dough looks like submarine buns. She was ticked but the father-in-law enjoyed them anyways...plus he got a good chuckle out of that.

Never heard of beet top buns, but rice and hamburger rolled up in beet tops are delicious! They are called Hollupsee (phonetic spelling again) The Russian Borscht sounds good too but never have had the pleasure. My specialty was bush chicken soup so thick it was really a stew. On one trip up North I shot at a grouse from above in a ravine that I missed but it was stunned by the wad and grabbed it right away to wring its neck. Never found any pellets in it during cleaning. The four of us limited out that first day, and were so tired after cleaning and supper with the usual 3 or 4 ounces that we could not play cards. We heard a sort of scratching noise at the back door of the rented cabin. I was seated closest to the door so stood up, took 2 strides, ripped the door and the screen door open and 2 more strides stomping out on to the back porch yelling heeeyaw git! to scare off the next cabin's hounds away from the bargage bags of guts. I looked down at the largest skunk I have ever seen looking back up at me as if to say, "what the hell is the matter with you boy!" It was apparently the camp pet, but it avoided us the rest of the week! My buddies told me that if I had gotten sprayed I would have been tossed out and not allowed into my car as it was our main transportation! That was another time I had horse shoes where the sun doesn't shine!
