Wells folks it looks like i am heading west..... I gave my notice today to my boss. I am done next friday and if i am not mistaken son has the following week off from university to study. Hopefully my wife and i will try to get a few things done here before i head west.

I have to be in Alta on the 20th of Feb for a sit down and a road test. Then on the 21st it's orientation then maybe catch the company bus northwest. If not they said they might keep me around the base and get to learn the ropes before i head out to the bush camp. The good thing about it we are in for a week then out for a week. My wife really doesn't want me to go but with son in school that is going to take up alot of cash over the next few years maybe up to 8 or so depending on his final occupation. I talked it over with my boss today and he said things don't look like they are going to pickup any time soon so i made up my mind today. :yay:

I am looking forward to a new adventure but in the same thoughts a little cautious but life is what you make of it. I looked at over the road but you might be gone for 10 days then get home for 2 -3 days then off for another 10 days so my wife is happy that she knows where my head will be avery night. Wish me luck i might need it. :classic:

Thanks all...yes at 48 years old it's hard to just up and leave home. But i'll be home every week for a week so at first it will be hard on my wife(me too) :crying: but once i get settled in things will get better...i hope ;)

Pipe once i get closer to that time i'll send you a pm and thanks for offering your number.

All the best Double T. You have to do what you must for your family.
There are many co's out there that you run only during the week, & then home on the weekend. Liberty is one of them, & they are good to their people.

Trust me it easier to pull up stakes at age 48 than 58! and after that forget it! Good luck, and keep warm. I remember the blizzsard of late Nov.'55. An RCMP Sgt. froze to death in his cruiser West of North Battleford after getting stuck in a snow drift, then running out of gas. Even the his big Buffalo hide parka was not enough to keep him warm. He did not have a candle or camp stove that could have saved him. Three days later it went down to 52 below F. This grandson of the original sod busters will remind you all that those homesteaders learned quickly how to be survivors. If you find time to read about it there is a small book in the libraries call "Stories from Western Canada" which vividly documents some of the originals experiences. The blizzard of 1908 virtually wiped out the South West Prairies and the cattle herds were not found until it thawed in the spring. I still can't understand this panic about global warming! Bring it on!
