“We have a disciplinary process that we need to follow,” TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said. “We would never jeopardize the discipline process.”

“What I can tell you is that we take the matter extremely seriously and our actions will be commensurate with the seriousness with which we take this matter.”

Union president Bob Kinnear said he could not comment because the matter is being dealt with internally.

“The TTC is conducting an investigation and the TTC is taking measures,” he said.

While I'm not a proponent of texting while driving I believe that being fired maybe a bit severe especially for a first time offense. Yes, it is breaking the law, so is speeding and driving with a headlight out.

Well one of our guys was involved in an incident and I wont go into deatilos as its a matter of confidentiality but the boss termintaed him right away andwe took it to grieveance and he was re instated because they didnt follow protocol.. he wass lucky as other wise he would have been gone with no recourse had they done it right.. have to be careful to follow the steps other wise...

That's exactly my point! I suspect that they will try to fire the three drivers which probably contravenes the collective agreement. Will the union stand up OR will they bow to pressure from the TTC and their ridership.

These three haven't lost their licenses although they did violate the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. I'll bet money they have TTC drivers that for one reason or another have lost their driving privlidges and they weren't terminated. Tough to be a TTC driver with no ticket in your wallet!

No they won't lose there jobs.

They should be fired for putting lives in jeopardy but the union will protect them. Sad state of affairs when an idiot can keep his job over perceived attempted manslaughter.

Firing them sends a message to all other drivers who text and have not yet been caught and I think its appropriate consequences for someone trusted with the safety of the public. Maybe they can get a job at Timmies?

Nope, just stating the facts. Just before Christmas a TTC toll collector had his picture taken while he was SLEEPING ON THE JOB.

The UNION screamed blue murder because it was an invasion of his privacy!

WELL.........EXXXXXX CUZZZZEEE ME! The guy kept his job because his union protected him from NOT DOING it.

Some of these guys are making 100k plus a year for a b/s job a 10 year old could do.

They drivers broke a traffic law, so are all drivers who break ANY law going to be fired? its alright for a driver to speed maybe 5km/h over the limit and everyone is happy he kept the bus on schedule, but the still broke the law. whats he difference?
give them a couple warnings and then suspend them and then fire after that if they keep doing it

some phones are alot safer to text on, and people can type without even looking at the phone. my old phone was easy and i could type without looking, but my new touch screen phone is just impossible, so i agree texting while driving with certain phones is downright dangerous.
and since i got my touchscreen phone i understand why its so dangerous and i will not text and drive.

Here you go again judging people.

BS job a 10 year old could do,
Get your nose down a bit, bus driving is a serious job that is NOT for everyone.

The guy who was caught sleeping didnt loose his job, how do you know he didnt get reprimanded?

According to your magnificent and rationnal judgement, what shouldnt have been the appropriate "punishment" (I know you safety guys like that word).
Shot, hung, maybe whipped 10 times?

they make good money? so what? somebody agreed and was dumm enough to sign theire contract.

Why is it that you never blame the people who were dumm enough to agree and sign contracts that according to you are too much?
