Can't get 'puter to stay off!!!

What would make a computer turn on in the middle of the night without anyone around. When I come downstairs in the morning there it is, running like a good ole thing!!!

If you are not given to sleep walking then I would be very wary of that machine, it is taking on a life of its own! If this syndrome persists, try finding the auto interrupter spool! ha ha ha or maybe you should install a video surveillance camera to catch the ghost user(s)!!!! If all else fails, tell that machine it has a date with the warrantee techies who can "marry" it to a old 265 clone!!! This type of humor maybe hazardous to your posts!

Ron, you may have been hacked and are being used as a relay, mine did the same thing last year had to be wiped clean and reprogramed.
Hope yours wasn`t relaying the same s#$t as mine was.. Good Luck

perhaps you are just setting it to "stand by" mode instead of it shutting itself right down.

Dave, doesn't the router installed between the modem an the compuker keep the vast majority of hackers out cold in the street? Another way would be to just pull the ethernet cable out of the modem, n'est pas?
I realize that there are the rare animals out there that can hack into Bill Gates winter underwear, but statistically you, I and our friends do not have an attractive enough profile to be of interest to so highly skilled a geek. Now if you go using certain keywords then certain survaillance types might get nosy until they find nothing of substance! And some of that is automated to some degree I hear, but it gets reviewed by a live geeko later for filing or follow up or deletion, eh!
