What are your opinions about current political advertising, especially on TV, when there is not a declared election campaign in progress?
I am personally disgusted by the current ads by the Conservatives that plagiarize Liberal Leadership contestants speeches!
First of all these ads are quoting other people without their consent to the use of their words. It is probably legal because these words were spoken in the public domain in a debate, yet it was in the context of a party convention.
Second, there is a blatant mistruth contained in the adverts. The claim that Stephane Dion is not a leader is false. He is the duely elected leader of the party in a fair and open convention. It would be another thing if the adverts only questioned his ability to lead or the quality of his past leadership which is alluded to, but the claim that he is not a leader is a falsehood.
Finally, the Conservative Party Executives that ordered up and approved this advertising are bringing their judgement and timing into question. Why are we , the public having to put up with this type of trashing and character assination when there is not a declared election? What is there going on behind the scenes that they want to distract our attention from at this time?
(Just for the record I am not a party member and am a "swing" voter.)

I usually stay away from politics, but you asked & I will tell you MY opinion. It's very simple.

We let them get away with this crap. If the public said "ENOUGH" of this garbag, they would have to take head.

See, I told you simple.

It's our fault.

In the UK, political parties are only allowed to run adverts during an election campaign. The amount of adverts and the length of time is limited, so that all parties are fairly promoted.

This, I should add is for television advertising. Parties are only allocated these slots when they are fielding a certain amount of candidates. This is because we can have a lot of 'one off' candidates, standing in elections. This advertising is paid by Government, hence the reason it is fairly distributed.

Newspaper advertising is different, individual parties pay for that advertising. and there is now limits there.
