On Streets and Trips, it is shorter to run via Orangeville by six miles and it is less densely travelled. Orangeville is also just about half way but because there are jogs in the route and very little 4 lane expressway it is not considered by most people. Bad weather and or accidents make the alternates more attractive though!

Hey I know where that Husky by the airport is. Hubby works for Canadian Expedite (CanEx) on Millcreek Dr. in Mississauga. He used to work for a company on Argentia Rd just off the 401 and I used to have to run him down there every Sunday and bring him home on Friday. I used to do all sorts of other routes to avoid that backed up 401 on Friday nights especially.
