i have read in several trucking magazines while i was in canada about the debate on a drivers daily meal allowance it seems unfair that as a professional you are not entitledto eat as well as a civil servant gets a meal allowance $75.00 a day for there meals the trucker is only entitled to 10 or 11 dollars a day after taxes a child couldnt even survive on that im reading out of an article in a trucking magazine that i took back home the industry needs to 30 40 thousand a year need to be recruted were are the teamsters when you need them someone needs to start taking up issues with the goverment as well as poor facilities for drivers as some drivers are paying big taxes every year i feel they are entitled to eat fairly and not be looked down on if it werent for trucks moving goods the country would stop

I thought that we Canadians were allowed 50% of $35.00/day without receipts provided your log and other documents prove you were away from home over night! But I have been retired 1 1/2 years so have not kept in touch with any changes. If you keep receipts for meals and they exceed $35 then the 50% of the higher amount can still be claimed off your income taxes. Many drivers carry a cooler and eat one or two meals a day in the truck to save costs. That is not so easy now for crossin g into the USA as they changed the rules. All food must have proof of traceability to source. All Beef products, citrus fruits etc. are prohibited because of the Mad Cow (which was an American animal imported) and the chance of Mediterean Fruit Fly accidental importation into California or Florida. If you have any food aboard that was purchased on a previous trip to the States you better have reciepts or surrender the food for destruction! The go down the street to the nearest Super WalMart to restock and buy Oranges with labels from Cyprus, South Africa or Bangaladesh! It is all politics and the civil servants use it to harass and discrminate against us peasants! Get used to it when you get over here. There are some subtle and other not so subtle discriminations! I have an Irish name, too!!

The TL2 form is a GUIDELINE only.. Who in hell can eat on 50% of $45.00 a day.

Use the subsistence that you're allowed and pay yourself what you're worth.
