OTTAWA - A man who has made people's safety his life's work said he was shocked to see an STO bus driver doing paperwork on the steering wheel while driving passengers through Gatineau traffic.
Emile Therien, past president of the Canada Safety Council, said that if the driver worked in the private sector he would be fired, but because he works for a city union "he'll get a slap on the wrist and walk away."
Therien called the act criminal.
"If you were an insurer, would you want him?" he asked.
A passenger filmed the driver signing papers and, at times, steering with his knees. It was posted on YouTube on July 18.

I don't think I could sit there and record that...especially if there were kids on that bus.

It doesnt make it right but youre right Ralph, I'll bet that all of us did far worse while driving.
I don't agree with what he did, but driving a transit bus has to be one of the most boring jobs around. Same route on a tight schedule over and over every day. Not a job for me.

Me either. I don't deal with mouthy kids and drunks very well, guess I'm just not a people person

Not all that bad, can't say its boring, definately have to use all your defensive driving skills. I have asked repeatedly for a cattle prod but management just dont see the humour in it. :36_1_72[1]:
