A trucker from St. Paul, Alberta, Canada, received the 2006 Bridgestone Firestone Canadian Truck Hero Award on Thursday, Nov. 16, for his bravery in saving a fellow trucker.

According to Today’s Trucking, Shawn Berube was using a phone booth on the shore of Lake Superior when he smelled smoke. At first, he said he thought it was chimney smoke from a restaurant – but then saw that the thick smoke was coming from the cab of a truck.

Berube pulled the disoriented driver out just moments before the tractor became engulfed in flames.

The winner of the award receives:

A $3,000 check from Bridgestone Firestone Canada;
A trip for two to Toronto for two nights with hotel, airfare, ground transportation and meals included, for the award presentation;
A Canadian Truck Hero Award trophy; and
Recognition at the annual Ontario Trucking Association Convention in Toronto.

Truckstop Canada is proud of this fellow trucker :clap:
