hey guys, i have a few questions regarding my 2010 550 isx. i have heard people say you can unplug the egr valve on the older models to keep the valve closed, but if i do this on my engine will it plug the dpf? i would like to get rid of the darn thing completely but since the truck is still under warrenty its not an option yet. the dpf is becoming a concern lately because i had to do a manual burn the other day after i hauled a very heavy load of logs which should have gotten the exaust plenty hot enough to burn it off itself
also i have a fuel issue.. i changed the fuel filters last week and the fuel that drained out had a black tint to it. i took a sample in a glass jar to see if it would seperate and it hasnt in the last 4 days. it looks like it has oil in it. any thoughts would be appreciated. i should add that the filters seem to be ok (not plugging every week as algea will cause)

just a little background info- truck is a 2010 389 pete with 130000 miles. i pull a lowbed and haul logs in the new england area. average weight is 110,000 lbs, with an average distance of 100 miles each way per load. truck gets regular oil changes every 300 hrs with filter changes at about 200 hrs. fuel filters every 200 hrs and air as needed. miliage is dismal on this truck at a mere 4.1mpg, although currently its only around 3.9.... egr valve was replaced at 82,000 miles and the turbo at 86. other than that it hasn't had any issues

The only answer I have heard with the dpf trucks is to have the ecm re-written with no egr or dpf in it. There is a company in Vernon B.C. that goes by the name of J-Ball electronics thats doing this and I'm sure there's some others. We had a 08 KW gravel truck that had 72000 km on it that we gave up on because of the dpf crap. It was constantly throwing codes and de-rating power. I would not touch a dpf truck with a 10 foot pole, absolute freaking nightmare as far as I'm concerned!

I had a truck in the 80's that turned the fuel in the tanks to go black, sorry I just can't remember what the cause was but it had the mechanic a little bit confused. I would and sure your are trying to get that figured out as its not normal.

i just had my truck dyno'd do to poor fuel milieage ( 07 pete 475 isx) my fuel is going black as well ,the cummins tech said its caused by idling for long periods ( no apu or aux heaters installed )
