For the past four years, cycling enthusiasts have been able to go on 115-kilometre rides with Armstrong if they could raise a minimum of $20,000 for the fight against cancer. Armstrong is a seven-time winner of the Tour de France, and a cancer survivor himself.
Another cyclist, Dan Einwechter, raised $67,205. As the top fundraiser, Einwechter was entitled to wear the yellow jersey and to start the ride with Armstrong, but, showing generosity of spirit, Einwechter gave this privilege to Portelance.
