I want to run hard. I want to run to the south like Tx. i'll run Ca. I'll run coast to coast. I need lots of miles- wake up and drive. sleep for a bit, wake up and drive. I prefer not to do short runs like Qc to Ma. or to Nj. Yard to yard would be great too. Of course i want good pay: at least $0.40 / Mile.
I understand I cant always get what I want. Does anyone know what companies offer something close to what I am hoping for?
Thank you for reading my thread and i appreciate any input.:Trucker:

Good looking fleet, see them lots in Greater Dallas.
BLM as Liner suggested is another good choice.
You're really looking for a "primo" job with you list of demands/wants. Are you "good enough" to warrant searching for a job like that? Not trying to be a dick...just asking the question.

They are not demands. I rather call Them hopes. I am good enough- It's why i don't want to go back to SGT where you SGT on your ass and wait all day for loads, repairs etc. This is considered Primo? lol. I heard of higher- and i worked way better at the last outfit- $70,000 salary, 1 week on 1 week off at home. you cant beat that. got laid off:(

One would think that with the so called "driver shortage", finding the job you describe shouldn't be an issue. Try Challenger, JR Hall, Caravan, the list goes on. A lot of carriers want teams on their long haul. There are publications that are basically recruiting rags. Pick one up and start calling. Truck News is another source.

Someone please tell me since when is .40/mile good money?

Teams are running@.50/mile so .40 for single is good money, most ive seen 42-45 and only one said .45
I agree to an extent what you mean
For me a professional should be earning $250 for an 8 hr day minimum.
Lots of bigger companies out there would be happy to let you work up to making .37 per mile, so in that context .40 is decent. Still really low as we are all agreed many trucker wages are when calculated by the hours worked, but better than quite a few.
I would have enjoyed trying long haul for a while to begin my career, but in general the wages are insulting unless you drive team. I'm not one of the people that is suited to team driving - unless a future wife is a trucker.

We're at .5695cpm now, plus .01cpm for every axle over 5 here in Edmonton, Ab. Plus hourly for pre-trip, post trip, fueling, hooking, spoting, dropping, waiting, unloading.. you get the idea. lol Nothing is done for free.

Is that team or solo?

Solo. I should mention we also get .0225cpm sub
Team is .6374cpm, plus a sub of .03cpm.
However we only have one team run requiring two teams running from edmonton to yellowknife.
Definitely got a good pay setup there. Wish that was more common in the industry.

It's linehaul, home daily (other than the team runs obviously). They've been good to me, but lately i've been looking around for something different. Wouldn't mind more of a challenge. Would like to get more into deck work, oil patch, stuff like that. Most of the work I do for them is city work, dragging a 53ft trailer around the city gets boring after almost two years. I do highway trips when needed or on my days off for extra money. I'm not sure if I'd ever want to go on the highway for them fulltime. You do the same run every night day in and day out. Some guys enjoy it, but I know I wouldn't. Cash is good though, I would say our fulltime highway guys averaged 90-110k this past year... sleeping in their own bed every night.

If y'all quit working cheap and sitting @ docks for free then the industry would have to pay more and charge more. Employers have ZERO incentive to pay more when you keep showing up and accepting what they offer.

Agreed, as long as they can get away with it, they will. It's up to drivers to decide that they cannot treat us that way. I recently turned challenger down flat when I looked at the agreements they wanted me to sign. I'm willing to move to Alberta again if that's what it takes to find an employer who values the large chunk of my life I'm selling them.

Or the Peace block of BC for that matter.

But then you have places like Thunder Bay, the Maratimes, Quebec, many parts of Ontario that don't have good paying jobs. And the decline of the lumber industry has left certain areas flush in drivers. There are jobs but don't pay much and guys are happy to take them because it is better than uprooting your whole family and moving them to Alberta. .40 cpm is good enough if you live in Rural NB maybe but not even close if you live in little NFLD (Fort MacMurray)
.40 would barely cover rent in Fort MacMoney.
Pipeman - Yeah when I finish school around xmas I'm planning to head towards those jobs. I'll have 100+ hours in truck during training and lots of mountain/winter driving, so I'm hoping someone will give a rookie a chance to prove himself out there.

I blame new drivers and there is a crap load of them. Schools are just pumping them out and I'd say the majourity of them dont last very long. There is no driver shortage in Ontario but it seems they also cant keep their drivers in this very competitive industry.

Thanks Pipeman,
