Hello out there,
I am living in Germany and today I have been to an informationday from "First Canadian Imigration Service" about imigration to Canada as truckdriver.
We were offered a 37 Cent per mile and 22 Cent per km ...... for about 12000 miles per month.
Is that ok this way.... no other social offers anyway?????

Here is another way of thinking about rates: since most freeways permit trucks to drive at 60 MPH then you will probably average 50 MPH when all breaks and stops are included. So 50 x 0.37 = $18.50 Per Hour or
12000 x .37 = $4440.xx gross before taxes and withholding, etc. At that level ($53,280 per annum) you will expect to see about the following deductions:
Federal Tax approx. $870.76
Unemployment Insur $ 74.52
Can Pension Plan $191.86
Total approx. $1137.14 Cdn
(Assuming you are employed not self employed)
Gross: $4440.xx - $1137.14 = $3302.86 net
These are hypothetical but realistic values, but do not expect that every month will be 12K miles
The truck breaks down and goes in for a warranty repair and you lose 2 or 3 days only if you are lucky, then the company loses a contract but has bids on other contracts so wants to keep their drivers around so the existing loads are shared around for a week or two or three, then you get a load that fails at US or Can. Customs, you lose 1/2 or upto 2 days getting the correct permits and papers, next you have a back haul cancelled at the last moment and you wait around a truckstop if you can find one for a day and a half for dispatch/sales to latch onto a load or part loads that pay enough to roll the truck for. Don't even think about that silly sorry assed 4wheeler that is going to run into you while you are legally stopped at a stop sign, it takes out your radiator. Your truck gets towed to the repair shop and you have to take ataxi to the pee collection parlor for a drug screen yet the perpetrator is free to go whine for free medical welfare care for a non existent injury which he and his lawyer will send you and your company notice that they are suing you for damages even though the city kitty charged him with careless operation! NO MY NAME IS NOT MURPHY BUT HE MUST BE A COUSIN! Bin thar dun dat!
I was supoenaed to a traffic court case in Atlanta when my fathers funeral was to be held in Edmonton. There ain't no justice for truckers, so get used to it!

They're offering you peanuts :yikes:

They want you to work like a slave :yikes:

This is typical of the bottom feeding carriers that "import" drivers/lackies as the domestic labour pool refuses to work for such a pittance.

this are very interesting aspects and thanks for being that open and honest.
I already calculated last evening and came to almost the same result. So that offer is not one which would let us decide to move to Canada.
My husband is gaining the same here and has lots more of time-off and holidays. We also would have to invest lots of money (we think about 35000 to 40000 Euros - 1 canad. Dollar is about 0,65 Euro) to build up our live over there aand get settled, so the income really should be higher to be able to catch up to those costs.
Thank you again and I will surely continue to watch the scene and offers :)

They must be hard up for drivers, I see adverts in evry trucking magazine for driving jobs in Canada. All of them are through agencies, which no doubt make a good margin of the fees that have to be paid before moving to Canada.

Realistically, with a little hard work, it should be possible to arrange your own move to Canada and get a job with a reputable firm and not have to give your hard earned money to a 'suit' who wants to sit in his fancy office and stare at his bank balance getting bigger every month.!!

You are absolutely right, Wee Laddie. Of all the agencies I had to work through to gain experience, I never found a good one and everyone of them never stood behind the employees when there was a legitimate work issue or grievance! They are utter parasites and should be legislated out of business!

Meanwhile I think the same....
Last friday I was at this informationday about imigration to Ca.
That gentleman there from the First Canadian Imigration Service asked me to call him until sunday 6pm here in his hotel to talk again.
I called at 5 pm and he had already checked out was gone.
Now I ask myself, if HE catched enough flies for this trip or is he gone, because nobody had shown up anymore with interest????

I had time to calculate about this offer twice now and found out, that I made a mistake in my first calculation.....
We would have about 650-800 Euros less in Canada with the offered money than my hubby is already earning here each month. :wtf:

Good thing he disappeared.
There are so many of these scuzzies out there. I too think they shoud be put right out of business. They know nothing nor do they care to know about this industry.

Holly, it wasn`t all that long ago that these Temp. Agencys were just that. Companys that used them could only work a temp for 90 days then had to hire them on probation or let them go. Lots of companies started playing the 89 day game with people. :wtf:
Then our illustrious leaders listened to the big company money and allowed these Temp Agencys to become fulltime employers.
Companys gain was large---working stiff skeerewd again
