Welcome, George. Your written English is far better than my non existent German, Danka! Like most skills, language is a learned talent and it takes time and practice. It is also partly dependant on what skills are inherited from our parents. Research has shown that we do not think in any given language, but in the abstract which is then processed into a language by the brain. Your best language(s) will be those that you learned during ages 1 or 1 1/2 to 5 on the knee of your mother. Also the more languages learned the easier it is to add to. You are already aware that English is one of the youngest major tongues and it is far less complicated by genderization but more complicated by the idioms (excentric illogical expressions)! The anthropological origins of it are interesting and not totally agreed upon by the experts. (Saw a TV program about this and the early settlements on the Eastern shores of England this past week on the Discovery Channel.......there is some new thinking going on based on the examination of soil disturbances using ground penetrating radar discoveries of village sites!) Then there is the constant evolution of languages based on the subsequent generations useages. Latin became a "dead" language because it is not spoken but only written, thus fixed in place. The Celtic languages are also becoming rarer. Only some of my stubborn cousins still use it!
Good luck on this major endevour in your lives. It takes a lot of courage and there will be times that you will wonder if it was the right move or worth it. But nothing ventured is nothing gained as the old saying goes.

Hello all together,

Thanks for your welcome. In my first presentation I had forgotten something to say about my job and my family.
Once again, you know my name is George and I’m a 49 year old truck driver. Since approx 20 years I drive trucks cross Europe mostly tanker (flammable goods, refrigerated gases) or dry bulk (coal dust, cement). I have read here truck driver is not only a job, it’s a lifestyle. Yes, that is true.

I’m married with my wonderful wife Doris :lover: . She works as an assistant by a doctor. We have three “little” sons ;) . The oldest Frank (28 years) lives with his girlfriend in Nuremberg, Germany and he works as an electrician. Our second son Stephen (25 years) is a carpenter and he lives with his wife in our town Cologne. They have a little daughter (1 year, hurray I’m grandpa) and the second child is in coming, will be a boy. Our youngest Chris (19 years) lives by us and he terminated secondary school this year.

We have two cats, Charlie and Jule, two crazy budgerigar :wow: , they love the cats :yikes: . In our pond swimming four little nameless gold – fishes and they love the cats too :yikes: :yikes: .

Greetings
Georg
