    Default HOS Changes, ELD Implementation

Don't panic... they have a ways to go yet!

This is the first public notice of proposed changes, including ELD implementation. You have until February 14, 2018, to comment (60 days from date of publication). Then there will be a period of review (~six months). Then the final rule will be published and then there will be a period (could be as much as two years, but probably about one and-a-half) before implementation and then a period of time before enforcement. So, you're probably looking at two-ish years.

So, if you see something you don't like (you have to scroll way down to get to the actual regulations part), MAKE SURE YOU COMMENT TO THE DEPARTMENT.

If you're interested in the details of the process, they're currently at Part 2, Step 7.

    There's a nap for that.

the Canadian mandate won’t require ELDs to be used until 2020, with existing devices permitted until 2022. So, there is more than two-ish years

Well there are some idiots in every crowd causing crashes, it won't be the fault of the ELD., The Canadian rules work way better than the us ones with the ability to stop the 14 hr clock. So why race? Unless you just want to break the rules and not get caught is the only reason. You will get caught eventually. Only met one guy ever that survived a DOT audit. Perfect was all they said. The rest of us got tickets plural lol.
