Thread: Close Call

    Default Close Call

Hope the video shows up. Really close encounter coming into Yorkton, SK this morning. I was fully loaded Super B (about 62.5T). Nothing behind me, not sure why he didnít wait.

My company is trying to locate other truck company. I was too busy recovering to get the name.

I've had that happen a few times in the past. Not fun.

If he would have made a PROPER turn it wouldn't be a problem but he turned into the wrong lane.

"What's with those grain haulers in SK, are they drunk, or just stupid?"
First thing I thought while watching your video.

Reminded me so much of this video.
If it were me, I might have ripped the door off the truck and dragged him into the ditch where I could safely have my way with him.

That was a little closer than mine!!!! Canít believe he avoided that!

Careful though painting everyone with the same brush. Iím a grain hauler and run often in Saskatchewan, as I am today, and I donít drive drunk, or drink at all.

Lots of the grain haulers in Saskatchewan are farmers and learned to drive on the farm.

    Didn't mean to insult.

I have some friends that haul grain, one I've known for over 40 years works for Mark Brandt these days.

I have family that farmed in SK and MB, where I spent my summer vacations as a kid, and have a pretty good idea what goes on out in farm country.

I also drove a lot of miles criss crossing the prairies and I know, (historically speaking), there were a good deal of drunk truckers and farmers on the roads.
Used to see them all the time, dodged a few over the years as well, and as a kid I had a couple scary rides in the back seats of drunk farmer's cars.

When I was working for Tri Line in 1976, there was a safety awards meeting in Edtn one time, and this farmer/trucker from Kleefeld MB received a trophy for being a safe driver.
The next day the RCMP found him drunk, inside his truck, in the ditch, less than a 1/2 mile from his farm, passed out over the steering wheel.
He didn't quite make it home, his trophy still sitting on the dash, and he lost his license in the process.

    I quit the sauce 37 years ago, a move I don't regret.
